Since I spent almost 8 years as a Master Esthetician , I LOOOOOOVE trying new skincare products and I love it even more when I find an amazing new product. It’s always exciting to see what new skincare companies are out there and its REALLY exciting when the products are beyond anything you hoped. Recently I found an amazing product, Body Merry’s Hyaluronic Dew Serum and I want to share it because it’s fantastic.
Here’s three things that I immediately loved about the line and helped solidify my decision to begin to try the Body Merry products:
This line is really affordable. I have found that some people have the misconception that “the ONLY good skincare products are all $$$”. Just like with makeup, skincare products purchased from smaller companies and drugstores can still be amazing and JUST as potent. I am not one to buy super pricey skincare products so the pricing of the Body Merry line was perfect for our budget!
I was REALLY impressed with the ingredients in their products. They offer a number of products all based around potent ingredients that actually help your skin which sadly not all skincare companies seem to do. This is especially impressive given how affordable the products are! I was also very impressed with how they combine ingredients.
As a master esthetician I believe that your best results come from combining chemical exfoliants (like glycolic acid and Retinol) with ingredients that hydrate and soothe (like hyaluronic acid and aloe). The two main benefits to combining these products are:
a) when you get your skin “turning over” aka sloughing off at a faster rate through exfoliation (our skin slows down as we age, get sun exposure, smoke etc) , you will also get better penetration of ingredients because theres not an excess of dead skin blocking your products from fully doing their job and b) your skin will look less dull and less rough due to the chemical exfoliants. Chemical exfoliants are also great for skin texture.
*Pro tip- Part of finding good skincare products investigating what ingredients are actually in a product. A skincare company can claim their cleanser has Retinol to help your “wrinkles and fine lines” but then you come to find out later on that theres actually a MINUTE amount which won’t do a darn thing! Pay attention to how ingredients are listed, those at the top of the ingredients list make up a lot of the products whereas ingredients at the end of the list only make a very small portion of the product. MAKE sure the products promised on the label are actually towards the top to middle of the list!
I really love that I can get their products easily online. The company offers prime shipping on Amazon which means free shipping for all Prime members (Amazon Prime is seriously worth every penny). I also really like that I have the option of choosing to get it delivered through the “Subscribe & Save” oprogram where you get a discount by having the product delivered on a monthly or bimonthly basis.
I don’t know about you but my skin ALWAYS starts to feel tighter and look dull as soon as winter arrives. That being said, even in the summer and spring I struggle with my skin feeling tight as soon as I wash it which means I have dehydrated skin. Dehydration is often confused with dry skin (the difference is that dry skin is a skin type where dehydration is a skin condition meaning you can’t make your skin produce more oil but you can help reverse the dehydration)
I saw the Body Merry Hyaluronic Dew Serum and was immediately interested since Hyaluronic Acid is just about one of the best things for dehydrated skin.
In simple terms, dry skin means the skin doesn’t produce a lot of oil naturally whereas dehydrated skin occurs when the skin has lost hydration. If your skin produces some oil but feels tight and/or itchy after a shower, you have experienced dehydrated skin. Dehydrated skin has nothing to do with how much water you drink, it can happen because of the weather (winter is SO dehydrating for our skin due to how cold it is as well as the effects of heating systems), diet, as well as using the wrong products. Some people deal with it more than others, I know even in skincare school when we had treatments all the time (it was AMAZING), my skin was still dehydrated.
Just a gram of hyaluronic acid can hold up to six liters of water meaning it will add much needed moisture to your skin without having to use a lot of product. It also contains no oil so its safe for those of us who produce a lot of oil and are more break out prone! We have hyaluronic acid naturally in our skin so using a product that has a lot of Hyaluronic Acid helps your skin stay hydrated AND protected from environmental effect. It also helps support the skin due to it’s antioxidant properties, this is super beneficial since things like sun exposure and pollution can wreak havoc on our skin.
There is 5% of Hyaluronic Acid in the serum. Here is a list of ALL the ingredients in the serum:
“Organic herbal water, organic aloe, witch hazel, plant derived hyaluronic acid, kosher vegetable glycerin, methysulfonylmethane (MSM), hydroxyethyl cellulose, carrageenan gum, organic jojoba oil, wildcrafted green tea, geranium essential oil, sodium ascorbyl phosphate (vitamin C), tocopheryl acetate (vitamin E), sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate, and ethyl hexyl glycerin.”
I loved that the serum also has MSM and vitamin C since those ingredients work synergistically to boost collagen production! The Green Tea contains helpful antioxidants to fight sun damage and premature aging. The Aloe in the serum is also very hydrating and contains anti-inflammatory properties.
In short this serum is a power house of helpful ingredients and best of all, its beneficial for all skin whether you have oily skin or dry skin! I was amazed at how quickly it began to work. My skin quickly stopped feeling so tight which was surprising since no other product has ever completely eradicated how tight my skin feels after I wash it.
I will admit that I started using the serum while also starting Retin-A (which may have impacted my results to some degree).
This summer I noticed a small flesh colored “bump” on my forehead that was really rough feeling and slightly raised. I couldn’t figure out what it was so I went in to see the dermatologist JUST to be on the safe side. My dermatologist diagnosed it as a little patch of Seborrheic Keratosis (most Seborrheic Keratosis that I have seen has been only on older clients and is usually a darker color which is why I didn’t immediately know what it was). She gave me some samples of Retin-A to shrink it since I was nervous about “burning” it off.
Pro tip: Since Retin-A gets our skin turning over at a fast rate, I’m sure the serum was able to penetrate much more deeply. I definitely suggest getting a Retinol based product to use in conjunction with this serum.
In all honesty, it would be VERY worthwhile to add in Retinol to your skincare routine anyways as it is one of the best anti-aging ingredients. Body Merry has several Retinol based products and they are VERY affordable which isn’t always the case with Retinol. I would suggest trying the Retinol Surge Moisturizer since it has a good amount of retinol (2.5%). I’m planning to switch to that moisturizer once I finish my Retin-A samples.
FYI: Retin-A is prescription only while Retinol can be purchased over the counter, they are both Vitamin-A derivatives and work as a chemical exfoliant. Retin-A is also REALLY expensive so the Body Merry Retinol products are good for your pocketbook!!
In closing I want to say that this serum has been a game changer. Back in 2014, the stress of being sick combined with a limited diet and a wonky thyroid/adrenal fatigue REALLY changed my once well behaved skin. My skin began breaking out more easily and looked dull along with feeling tight. Worst of all, I started developing forehead wrinkles (I have a really expressive face and also furrow my brow when I’m concentrating so I have ended up developing some forehead wrinkles in the past few years)
My skin feels smooth and supple and I very RARELY ever feel tight or itchy on my face. My forehead wrinkles have definitely decreased which Im thrilled about (if you are really concerned with your fine lines, using Retinol will make a BIG difference)! While I still do get breakouts if I don’t wash my makeup off and when I have my period, overall my skin looks AMAZING. I’ve told SO many people about Body Merry and have already had several friends rave about the product line after starting the products.
I am really excited to try more of their products, I think I may buy the Age Defense Eye Cream and Glycolic Acid Exfoliating Cleanser next ! I will definitely be doing more reviews on Body Merry in the future so stay tuned.
