Since I am currently in Colorado it seems the perfect time to finally post my review of Fay Farm’s new CBD line. Part of the fun of being a blogger is getting to try new products and giving an unbiased review for my followers. I was especially excited to try these because I deal with multiple types of chronic pain every single day.

What is CBD?

For those not in the know, CBD is a very important part of cannabis (marijuana/ hemp). While it is one 113 active cannabinoids identified in cannabis, it makes up for 40% of the plant’s extract. THC is the most well-known part of the plant as it is what gets you “high” but CBD is really the star of the show for those who are looking to marijuana and hemp for relief from many symptoms including pain, inflammation, and seizures.

You may have heard of the young children with Dravet Syndrome (a very severe form of epilepsy) who have significant relief with Charlotte’s Web, a specific type of marijuana grown by the Stanley Brothers. CNN has covered this story a good bit and it is a main part of the documentaries they have recently produced. The most important part of Charlotte’s Web is it’s incredibly high CBD to THC ratio. The low dose of THC means there’s no psychoactive effects, just relief. While many cannabis experts have known about the benefits of CBD, it has become more well-known to the general public.

While marijuana is still illegal in many states, CBD derived from hemp is legal in every state. This allows people like me who don’t live in a legal state to still experience the many benefits of CBD. Because these products are made out of hemp with very little THC you will NOT get any kind of buzz or high.

Thankfully Fay Farm LLC owners Stacy Anderson & Micheal Yocco recognized the need for CBD infused products and have created a line JUST for CBD lotions and salves. The beauty of topical CBD is that it allows you to treat the specific areas that are hurting. Fay Farms offers several CBD products that target different kinds of pain/inflammation from nerve pain to muscle pain to autoimmune skin issues.

After reading many positive results by other bloggers from the Chronic Illness Blogger Network, I knew I wanted to try these products for myself!

The first product I trued was the Healing Hemp CBD Lotion, here’s a description from the Fay Farm website:

Healing Hemp CBD™ Lotion (200mg Cannabidiol)

Our Healing Hemp™ CBD Lotion provides relief for neuropathy, and other nerve pain. It is also effective relief for eczema, psoriasis, contact dermatitis, and other auto-immune skin disorders. Our Healing Hemp™ Lotion soothes burns, bug bites, athlete’s foot, ringworm, and dry, damaged skin. Made with organic ingredients: Purified water, hemp oil, grape seed oil, apricot kernel oil, emulsifying wax, stearic acid, argan oil, 200 mg. CBD oil, burdock, calendula, chamomile, chickweed, comfrey, licorice, nettle, plantain, st. john’s wort, essential oils, gluconolactone and sodium benzoate (certified organic preservative).

I was very excited to try the Healing Hemp because it is for nerve pain which is the issue that I struggle with the most. The Healing Hemp lotion smells absolutely wonderful. The scent is very herbal but not so strong it gave me a headache (which some strong scented products can do).

Sadly I didn’t feel any relief using it however it is important to note that I have never responded to ANY topical cream including ones that were medically compounded and included things like Lidocaine, Ketamine, etc. I say this because other people DO respond to topical creams and I think those people should give this a go! Thankfully I decided to bring all 3 products to my mom’s house so I could use plants from her garden for these  promotional photos (thanks Mom). I had her try some of the Healing Hemp on her foot which has a good bit of nerve damage from two achilles tendon surgeries.

She definitely felt relief so while this lotion did not help me, it DID provide relief to someone else with nerve pain.

However this CBD lotion is not JUST for nerve pain! Those with auto-immune skin disorders like eczema and psoriasis along with contact dermatitis may find relief with the Healing Hemp CBD lotion. As a master esthetician (advanced skincare therapist) I was definitely impressed with how many powerful ingredients they included to help with these particular skin issues that can be VERY difficult to treat. I didn’t have any of these issues to try testing it but I plan to definitely give some to anyone I know who struggles with eczema, psoriasis, or contact dermatitis!

Healing Hemp CBD Lotion: it has a lovely smell and does provide relief for nerve pain if you respond well to topical cremes and lotions.

The second product I tried was the Warming CBD Muscle Rub. This a description from the Fay Farm website:

Warming CBD Muscle Rub (50mg Cannabidiol)

Our best selling Warming CBD Muscle Rub has been designed for anyone with rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, muscle and joint stiffness, strained, sprained and tired muscles. Infused herbs with both warming and cooling essential oils provide deep soothing relief. Made with organic ingredients: Sunflower oil, castor oil, olive oil, beeswax, shea butter, menthol, camphor, cayenne pepper, arnica, essential oils of rosemary, eucalyptus, peppermint, ginger, cassia, and clove.

I really love this stuff. The smell is really wonderful and I LOVE how it quickly warms up. I get headaches every day and I found that using some of the Warming CBD Muscle Rub on the back of my neck and on my temples was able to knock my headache down a few notches.

My mom had a headache a few days ago when I was spending the night at her house and I was able to get it to completely go away when I used the Warming CBD Muscle Rub while I massaged her shoulders/neck/scalp. It  is a product I would love to use during the massage during facials if I ever get back to working. It definitely adds extra relief and relaxation to any massage.

*FYI* I would proceed with caution using this on areas that have a lot of nerve pain or if you have CRPS like me. Ingredients like cayenne pepper, menthol, and clove can be very stimulating and I have had some experiences where products that are “warming” and/or use potent ingredients can definitely flare up my nerve pain unfortunately. Do a test run first just on your skin and THEN do another test run on an area that hurts.

Warming CBD Muscle Rub: The smell is great, the warming sensation feels really good, and is very helpful for immediate relief with sore muscles/headaches.

The third product I tried was the Rejuvenation CBD Lotion. This a description from the Fay Farm website:

Rejuvenation CBD Lotion (200mg Cannabidiol)

Our Rejuvenation Lotion is a blend of herbs and essential oils designed to relieve joint and muscle pain. Use our Rejuvenation Lotion when applying to areas that need to be absorbed quickly, like hips, knees, shoulders, etc.  Notes of vanilla from peru balsam essential oil complimented with a delicious top note of camphor makes for a mild, almost decadent aroma.  Made with organic ingredients: Purified water, hemp oil, grape seed oil, apricot kernel oil, emulsifying wax, stearic acid, argan oil, magnesium, white sesame oil, jojoba oil, essential oils, 200 mg. CBD oil, fennel, licorice, turmeric, valerian, gluconolactone and sodium benzoate (certified organic preservative).

This lotion was definitely the one that smelled the best to me, the mix of vanilla mixed with fennel and licorice really was wonderful. This product is specifically for sore muscles and joint pain, two other issues that I struggle with a good deal. I also had my husband use some since his lower back often hurts along with his hands/forearms.

I definitely had a small decrease in pain using this after a REALLY tough PT session. We are doing a lot of upper body/core work so my arms were HURTING so I took some the Rejuvenation Lotion and rubbed it on my left arm. The next day my left arm felt MUCH better compared to my right. I didn’t have any relief with my joint pain personally but I definitely think its worth trying if nothing else, you will get relief from muscular pain!

My husband also had some relief from his chronic back pain so we have been using that for when things are really flared up.

Rejuvenation CBD Lotion: delightful smell and does provide relief for muscular pain.

Final Thoughts:

I would definitely recommend trying these CBD products if you are like me and dealing with a number of different kinds of pain.
