A few weeks ago I decided that I needed new hair to go with our new life in our new town. I have been seeing an amazing stylist in Winchester (Taylor at Heaven Salon) for the past few years so the thought of going somewhere else was a little daunting. Having someone take me on a 4 hour round trip to get my hair done was more daunting so I began my search for a new stylist. The plants aligned just so and I was lucky enough to find someone awesome (Charlotte at Georgetown West) who was down to fulfill the look I wanted.
Years and years ago I ALWAYS had fun short hair (and bright makeup as you can see). I worked at a few salons all through college and often volunteered as a hair model. Then I found one of my dear friends Nicki at PR & Partners and continually allowed her to create fun masterpieces on my head.
Once I got a job at a high end spa having wild hair wasn’t really an option. So I took out my lip piercing and tamed down my hair. Over time I got sick of only having short hair and decided to grow it out. When I began my own business I was able to have fun hair like pink ombre but because I was sick my desire to style my hair went out the window. I almost always wore my hair in a messy bun or a braid.
I began to feel uglier and uglier as I found myself unable to look “put together”. I finally cut it all off and immediately felt so much more “me”. So I recently decided to take things a step further since life has been bumming me out. I have almost always gravitated towards pinks and purples so I decided to do something super different.
It is perfect and totally what I was hoping for. I couldn’t be more happy with how it turned out. Sometimes doing something different is all it takes to make you feel a little more vibrant. I don’t get my nails done, massages or facials but getting my hair done is how I practice self-care (besides meditating, watching a little tv/netflix, reading a great book, and knitting).
What do you do for self-care?
